Who Qualifies To Undertake IMGCA Certification Training?

Candidates for IMGCA certification come from all walks of life, and have varied backgrounds in sports, coaching, teaching, consulting and the mental game. The IMGCA has designed four levels of certification to address the needs of persons wishing to advance their knowledge, training and capabilities as mental game practitioners. These levels range from beginning practitioners all the way to highly experienced, advanced professional mental game coaches. For levels I and II IMGCA certification, each applicant is assessed on an individual basis, and does not need to satisfy each of these qualifications to enter the program. Possible qualifying capabilities include:

• Experience as a teacher, trainer or coach.
• Experience in various sports, or deeply in one or two sports.
• Experience in movement or mind-body disciplines.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Academic preparation in a field that is in sport and movement or that supports these fields.

An ideal candidate for the two advanced IMGCA certifications would have a background as an athlete, coach, teacher, consultant, researcher, administrator or trainer, with academic preparation in appropriate, similar fields at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Advanced Certification Standing By Passing A Challenge Exam

If you have a background in the mental game, performance psychology, or associated fields you can choose to take a challenge exam to pass any IMGCA certification level. You would simply apply for your chosen level of certification, pay the appropriate fees and take the exam. You would completely bypass any classes, homework and fieldwork. This would of course save you considerable time. If you do not pass the exam, you will be afforded unlimited opportunities to retest. If you ultimately do not pass, your fees will be refunded. We have had numerous people utilize this challenge exam option, and everyone has passed, on the first exam.

When you pass the challenge exam, you would be certified at that particular level.

Advanced Certification Standing For Prior Certifications

IMGCA offers advanced standing for holders of prior, non-IMGCA certifications. If you hold a certification, or more than one certification, in fields similar to psychology, counseling, clinical psychology, community psychology, social work, human behavior, applied behavior analysis, industrial and organizational psychology, and educational psychology, and others, IMGCA will explore the options for advanced standing with you. Perhaps you have a certification in hypnosis, NLP or other areas. These usually qualify also, depending on the type of certification you hold.

Advanced Certification Standing For Holders Of Graduate Degrees

If you hold an advanced degree such as an MS, MA, MSW, Ph.D., Psy.D, or MD, or others, there is an option for you to achieve advanced standing in the IMGCA certification training program, and thereby save time and money.

If you qualify, you would skip one or more levels of certification, and start your program at a higher level. Your advanced degree(s) would qualify you to even potentially skip all contact hours, and you may be granted full certification graduation by virtue of your degrees and professional work experience. All you would do to qualify is to submit your resume or CV and pay the custom-quoted pro-rated tuition. A Sample Advanced Placement Program

If you start the IMGCA certification program at level III this includes your being able to be certified at level I and level II rapidly, in the following way.

Level I certification includes two hours of coaching classes with IMGCA President Bill Cole, plus other requirements (You would bypass the other requirements). After you complete these two hours you can write a short paper in lieu of the normal written final examination for level one. Once you do that you would be level I certified. IMGCA would send you the IMGCA level one certification diploma, you would have a press release featured on our website, and you would be listed on our IMGCA Coach Finder and also our IMGCA Speakers Bureau.

Level II certification is five hours of coaching classes with IMGCA President Bill Cole, plus other requirements (You would bypass the other requirements). The level I coaching classes count towards level two. So you would only need three more coaching hours to complete level II. After you complete these hours you can write a short paper in lieu of the normal written final examination for level II. Once you do that you would be level II certified. We would send you the IMGCA II certification diploma, and you would have another press release featured on our website.

In this way you could be level I certified and also level II certified virtually within one month or so. Then you'll be working on your level III certification. Once you complete all level III classes and other requirements you will do a final project or paper and you will then be a graduate of level III certification. We would send you the IMGCA level III certification diploma, and you would have another press release featured on our website. At that time you would begin your level IV certification, and all prior IMGCA coaching hours to that time would apply to level IV certification.

This is how advanced standing works where you will be fast tracked past level I, and Level II and go straight into level III. The hours from all prior levels apply to all following levels. So the total maximum number of hours someone would do for level IV would be 40 hours. This 40 hours is the maximum number, no matter where someone begins in the program. With your advanced placement we would remove the seven hours from level I and II combined and start you at level III. So then the contact hour totals look like this: 40 hours minus 7 hours = 33 hours for your combination of level III and level IV. When you complete 15 hours in level III and submit a paper or project, you would be graduated at level III. When you complete the next 18 hours in level IV and submit a paper or project, you would be graduated at level IV. We would send you the IMGCA level IV certification diploma, and you would have another press release featured on our website.

The IMGCA Private Backroom

IMGCA Certification students undertaking their program, and IMGCA Certification graduates have access to a wide private collection of mental game content, delivered across a variety of platforms.

The IMGCA certification process is a rigorous and thorough system that prepares you to deliver mental game services to many types of sports, mind-body and movement participants across a wide range of applications. These certifications are not programs leading to licensing or qualification as a sport psychologist. That requires additional training and schooling.

How The IMGCA Certification Process Works

Applicants may bypass selected lower IMGCA certification levels, depending on their background, experience, training and education, to undertake an advanced level of certification. This evaluation and determination will be made by the IMGCA.

The IMGCA certification program is comprised of these educational elements:

7. Practicums working with clients in field settings
8. Final project or written examination
   

The IMGCA certification training process takes place by phone, Skype, web and email. We have students from all over the world who study with us. For students wishing face to face class work with an IMGCA-certified instructor for part of their program, this can be arranged, but it is not necessary.

IMGCA Certification Requirements

Specific certification requirements vary, depending upon each level of certification desired. Some of the required hours are similar, but the type of assignments, type of material and level and depth of material advances at each successive certification level.

How To Apply For IMGCA Certification

1. Applicants complete the IMGCA certification for Mental Game Practitioner application.
2. Applicants complete an optional (at the discretion of the IMGCA) 20 minute personal interview by phone, fax or email with an IMGCA administrator.
3. Once all applicant materials are submitted, and the optional interview is completed, the IMGCA acceptance committee meets to review the applicant's packet.
4. A decision is made within seven (7) days and the applicant is notified by email or phone.

NOTE: Submission of an application to the IMGCA does not imply automatic acceptance into the IMGCA certification program. Completing this application is the first step in the IMGCA screening process.

IMGCA Continuing Education Credit Requirements

Certified graduates of the International Mental Game Coaching Association have earned 33 benefits and services that will benefit them in their career, on an ongoing basis.

To maintain IMGCA certification, the ability to call themselves certified, to use the IMGCA logos and to use these 34 privileges and benefits, IMGCA certified graduates are required to complete six continuing education units (CEU) every three years, and pay an IMGCA recertification renewal fee of $100 USD annually.

Virtually every international, national and state certifying organization in every professional field requires ongoing training once someone is initially certified or licensed. You may be familiar with this standard in these professions: medicine, nursing, law, engineering, psychotherapy, accounting, finance, etc.

This continuing education unit requirement is a vital part of a person's development as a mental game coach, and is something the IMGCA has made convenient for graduates to access and complete. This CEU requirement is meant to be instructive, interesting and meaningful to you in your career as a mental game coach. This is an opportunity to continue to excel in your chosen field. How you would complete these six continuing education units would be very simple. This can be done using the vast archives of the IMGCA Certification private backroom area. You could do this by reading a book, watching a series of videos or listening to a series of audios, or other similar tasks. As a graduate who is accessing the backroom area, you would naturally be doing these things anyhow. We just made this into a formal process that actually makes your certification more valuable and rigorous.

There are no additional classes, fees, charges, or tuition required in order to complete these six continuing education units, beyond the annual $100 recertification fee. There is no test to take or writing you must do. There is a suggested list of 32 various activities from which to choose that qualify as recertification tasks. You only need one or two of these every three years. IMGCA is also open to your suggestions for additional such tasks that may interest you. You would simply certify to IMGCA that you have indeed completed a certain amount of training, and that you have satisfied the three-year requirement.

Scroll down to the bottom of the text where the colored boxes appear. At the very top of this section you will see a light blue rectangular box that says: Annual Re-Certification Payment. Click on the yellow "Add to Cart" button to the right and it will take you to a new webpage for PayPal that says "Annual Re-certification payment". Click on either the yellow rectangular "Check Out" button or the oval rectangular button that says "Check out with PayPal". Either one will take you to a secure webpage where you can enter either your credit card data or your PayPal data.
